Im pretty bad when it comes to networking so please be easy on me. I just picked up a billion 5102s modem/router because the computer guy at the store said they all use ethernet over usb these days, ok with me.

Get home, everything fine, installs alright, says im connected to internet but im not! I can ping my router but thats about it. in network places it says im connected and that my computer is recieving packets but i can not access the internet. I go through the router wizard several times, still doesn't work.

Should have got usb modem!

Any thoughts, thanks

First of all, the comp guy was correct. Ethernet is heaps better than usb.

Just been explaining your problem to my wife, Sally. She has done all our network related stuff. As a reference, we run a lot of computer for folding with Short-Media.
Had a usb modem first and now use ethernet.

Have you tried shutting down your firewall?? This will help finding out if you can go online.

Have you restarted your computer as this can be another set back.

Did you assign an address or was it assigned?? Sally has had this problem too. :(

Is your modem on the list with your isp? If all else fails, they should be able to help also. We dont tell ours it has a 4 port router as they won't help cause that model is not on their list.

If you still have problems, shoot me a PM or an email and we will give you our landline number. Sally offered to help if you want.
We are locals in a sense, being in the Kelmscott area and are awake all sorts of hours.

If you do send a message and don't get a reply it's because i've gone to the "All Ford Day" at the Bassendean oval. It's on tomorrow. :)
I will check in as soon as i get back.

hey sorry for the late reply,

thanks guys, i had done all the above. After reaching a high point of frustration and playing around for about 2 hours, i walked away and watch a bit of cricket. I got back, restarted and it worked. I had restarted before but this time it worked

i live in huntingdale so im only a hop step and a jump away.

    thanks for your help

Great you got it working ok. Networking can be extremely frustrating. :(

As you say, Huntingdale is close. Even better for us once Champion drive joins up with Tonkin Highway. :)
