Trying out Linux

I am going to be installing Linus on my computer, as a dual boot. This is totally new ground for me, but I'd really like to get away from Windows.
How much anti-virus, firewall, spyware , etc protection do I need? Any suggestions as to what types (brands) to try, would be most appreciated.

Thanks;
Dragstk

    You won't need any spyware or virus protection.

    As for firewall, if you are behind a router, you're alright. Don't install SELinux because it makes even the simplest things very difficult to do.

    If the computer will be hooked up directly to the internet, then you should turn the built in firewall on (the bigger distros such as CentOS, Fedora Core, and SuSE all have the option to install a firewall with the OS)

    After all these years of having to install, run and upgrade all sorts of spyware and anti virus, it's seems strange to not need anything.
    Yes, I am behind a router and I'm going to be using Fedora and it does have a firewall.

    Thanks, Prime.

    If you REALLY want an AV program there is ClamAV which is easy to use (useful as it detects Windows Virii too), but as prime said, if you're behind a router, you don't really need anything.
