Pictures of The NV40 & R420?

Look at the length of the NV40... can you say surf board?

ARE THESE these the world’s first photos of the forthcoming ATI R420 and the Nvidia NV40?

Both the cards, pictured in an exclusive photosession here at Computex, for the INQ used ultra high speed GDDR3 memory modules from Micron Technology.

A Micron official confirmed that it is GDDR3 running at 800MHz and giving a data rate of 1.6Gbps will be in full production in Q1 of 2004.

Discussions indicated that samples of these boards may be available as early as November or December.

An interesting point about Micron GDDR3 is that it consumes significantly less power than previous memory types with a core requirement of 1.8 volts.

Although the picture of the Nvidia engineering sample shows silk screening where a heatsink design is shown, Micron suggests no extreme thermal cooling of these memory modules will be necessary.
