Can't remove old NIC driver

Ok here's my problem. I have installed a new NIC in one of my computers and want to give it a manually configured IP. When I do this I get a message that the manual IP is already assigned to a NIC on this computer but is physically missing. It gives some other info about causing problems, blah, blah, blah.

So, I go to uninstall this driver by clicking on the "show hidden devices" in my control panel/device manager, clicking on uninstall, and I get an error saying that it can't uninstall the driver as it may be tied to something else! The card is gone, there is nothing left to tie it to!!

How do I get rid of this driver so I don't have any "potential" errors in the future???

Just disable it and everything in show hidden devices. Sometimes they won't go away even after the nic is pulled. Clean install will get rid of it but disabling works fine. Safe mode might show more. I had a Linksys card that wouldn't go away.

Maggie, thanks for the input. I've disabled the device and I'm sure it won't be a problem. I'm just using a different IP addy for the new NIC now anyway. No sense in going throught all the hassle in reinstalling the OS.

    Thanks again!

It was a year before I did a clean install. I didn't have any problem.

I use the same IP addy since I get the IP automatically for my router. I didn't realize there were drivers still enabled in hidden view until my new nic kept messing up. Disabled them out of frustration and it worked!
