The Opteron 165, a 1.8 GHz 1mb per core dual core Process from AMD, is now available for purchase. Monarch Computer has these AMD Processors in stock now for $287 +SH as of Novemeber 6, 2005 at 10:30 EST. Its even cheaper than the 3800+ except you lose 200MHz in clock speed but gain L2 Cache.

OK now, who is going to get one to see how well these overclock in the 939 socket.

This actually peeves me a bit since it royally screws anyone with a single s940 board in terms of upgrade path. 939 users already have Athlon64, AthlonFX, and Athlon X2 which have matching parts across the entire Opteron 1xx line. It would've been nice to still have Opteron 1xx and Opteron 1xx dual core still on 940 and that way 1xx Opterons wouldn't have to compete with Athlon64, AthlonFX, and Athlon X2.

Some people at the overclockers.com forums and extreme forums have been getting some pretty decent results with these Opty 939 procs. I was very temped to get a dual core 175 instead of ordering my 4400, but at the time I placed my order, there was about a $95 difference in price. Now Monarch has dropped the price on the Opty 175 (2.4 GHz) down to where it's only about $25 more expensive than a 4400.

I wonder how soon it will be before the 170 is out?
