windows xp setup keeps restarting
Hi i am really hoping you can help because, i have never had a problem like this before.
Basically my computer was not working properly so I thought that if i tryed to reinstal XP it would solve my troubles. However it has made the situation even worse. At the point where it has 15 minutes left the computer reboots and resarts the setup. I canot access the main startup screen and cannot open the computer in safe mode. If i try and take the disk out I am just told to insert the disk. If i press shift F10 While the setup is running I can open C:\WINDOWS\system32> and then I can type something in. I dont know if i can type something in that will exit the setup. PLEASE HELP

1) Run Memtest-86 to ensure that your RAM isn't the problem.
2) Shut the computer down and remove any non-essential hardware, such as extra Hard Drives, sound cards, and (especially) Network Adapters. If the last two are built into your motherboard, disable them in the BIOS. Then give it another shot.
3) Run the diagnostic test from your Hard Drive manufacturer.
There are other things you can do as well. Let's start with these and take it from there.
Good luck.
And i cannot remove hardware because i cant access add remove programs
And also how to I run the diagnostic test.
Sorry for being a pain but i need kind of instructions on how to do it
Thank u
Also thankyou for getting back so quikly
(The program I linked to makes a Floppy Disk, if the laptop you are on can't do that, but can make a cdrom, let me know - there are ways to do the same thing that way.)
Boot from the disk you just made and the rest is automatic. I'd give it a few passes to be sure things are okay.
I'm referring to physically removing the hardware, as in getting a screwdriver and taking the component clear out of the machine, or disabling it in the BIOS. If you have any doubt about any of this, please ask first. None of it is all that hard to do, but better safe than sorry.
(Assuming you're referring to the Hard Drive test) The program you download will lead you through it, just as in the description of Memtest (above).
No problem at all.
If it was a "pain" Short-Media wouldn't be so popular, we'd close the forums and find something else to do. We're glad to try and help.
