wireless connection problem

i have 2 computers in the same room, about 10 feet away from each other. On the mian computer i have a verizon westell 2200. When that alone is hooked up to the computer, it goes at a great speed. Then i hook it up to my netgear wgr614 v5 router. so then both computers are going at a good speed. After about 5 or 10 mins, both of the computers go at a very very slow speed. Practially a dile up speed!! does anyone know whats up with it? (and the wireless internet computer has a ma111 netgear in its usb to get the connection) thank you--and btw .. the one with the modem is windows xp home sp2.. and the one needing wireless is windows xp home sp1--- and also wafter overnight, when both are inactive for a while, when i go on the main comp with the modem, it runs quickly..

    computer 1(sp2)
    verizon westell modem(connected to wall)---connectected to netgear via ethernet cable

    Computer 2(sp1)----(runs of of wireless)
