Problems with DIMES

Yesterday afternoon I installed DIMES on my 2 Folding machines. According to the stats page I turned in 3600 points, but I have no idea how.

In the messages box, it does a Traceout, then a ping, then "destination host did not reply". I'm assuming that I'm the destination host?
In the graph page, I have a few dots, but they only move around when the mouse gets near them.
I have tried every setting in my firewall (Zone Alarm-free version) that I can think off, including turning it off, still no go.
I have the latest Sun java.
And now I see that the the protocol is UDP, but everywhere ICMP
is checked or marked.
I have shut down DIMES and restarted it, rebooted, still no go.

I spent some time at the DIMES forum, but didn't find anything.

Anybody have any suggestions? :scratch:

Thanks;
Dragstk

    Dragstk,

    I had similar problems for a few days, mostly if I looked on the message tab, all the netries were red. Meaning that I wasn't talking to the Dimes server.

    To cut a long story short, it turned out that my Bit Torrent client was hogging all my bandwidth. Since that process was stopped, I'm all connected and turning in points.

    Cheers

    Thanks Crypto;
    Yes,I am definitly being blocked. I have all red also. When I click on "get info", on the main page, I can get my own computer, and my IP address, but my ISP is unknown. So I'm assuming that it is my ISP that is blocking me.

    Is there a way to find out if it is the ISP, or is it somthing that I need to call them about?

    Thanks for your ideas.

    Dragstk,

    my problems are down to bandwidth hogging by a BitTorrent client.

    I stopped the BT process and shortly after Dimes was able to connect and it's been fine ever since.
    Last evening, I installed a differnt Bittorrent client (utorrent) and restricted the up and download speed. This has given me a patchy communication with the Dimes server, so it looks to me that Dimes is not compatible with Bittorrent. :(

    To check if this is the case for you, try this investigation:

    Start/run, type in "cmd". Then in the text box type "netstat -ano".
    Have a look at the list and note the "established" states and their PID number and also the number of occurences.

    Then go ctrl/alt/delete and look at processes. You can then see the PID number and identify which processe are using your bandwidth. You may have to enable the PID column by selecting view/select columns and check the PID box.

    In my case, I could see that the Bittorrent process had about a dozen "established" events at one time.

    I'd be interested to now if any others of our team are running Dimes and Bittorrent together.?

    Cheers
