When you say "have spyware installed" do you mean they are infected, or that they have anti-spyware programs running?

You might also check your Hosts file. (In C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc) You can open it with Notepad.

I have kind of a similar problem. I can get to most sites, but if my computer has been on for a while, I'll often get the "cannot be found" message when I try to go to another page (such as replying to posts on a bulletin board.) Once in a while, I can't get to a site at all, at which point I usually have to connect to it via the search engines -- but sometimes I can't get to those.

Does anyone know what this problem is and what I can do about it?

Check your firewall settings (if applicable).

Are you using Internet Connection Sharing so the other computers can get on the Internet, or do you have a router? If so, there are some settings which might clear this problem right up.

It might be worthwhile to post a HijackThis log in our Spyware/Virus/Trojan Discussion Forum. Make sure you read the instructions first.

The fact that you can't get to McAfee's site is troubling. Lots of viruses kill your ability to update your virus definitions to make the infection more difficult to remove.

I'd try what I posted about HijackThis and the SVT Forum. If they find nothing wrong we can go from there. :)
