the cooler looks similar to the flow FX BUT does not take up an additional PCI slot.
I just hope it isn't noisy... does it really need that kind of a cooler when its just a few mhz faster than a 9800pro ?

Sure does look impressive. AFAIK, in order to get everything they could out of the R360 architecture, they had to implement a better cooling solution to help dissipate all the heat from the VPU & RAM with them both running at a heightened clock speed compared to previous cards.
As long as the ATI "Flow FX" doesn't have a "leaf blower" fan, the card should offer a performance improvement. How much... well that won't be revealed for another few days, as the 9800 XT is to ship on Sept. 30th.
