I need a new drive to replace my ageing IBM Deathstars. What should I go for out of these three ?

Maxtor IDE ATA-133 120GB 7200RPM DiamondMax Plus 9 8 MB cache.
£78.50

Western Digital Caviar 120GB IDE 7200RPM Special Edition 8MB cache WD1200JB
£81.63

Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 120GB IDE ATA/100 harddisk 8MB cache 7200RPM
£74.68

Any comments or experiences welcome.
How noisy they are may be the determining factor.

Western Digital is my favorite for IDE drives.

Maxtor and WD are both good, neither are even remotely loud and my other seagate drives were always quiet and never had a problem with any of them.

I would go with the WD myself, although I have never had a problem with my Maxtor, WD, or Segate drives so far. But if I had to choose I would go with WD.

I have owned Maxtor, Seagate and Western Digital drives in the past few years and can't really say anything bad about any of them. They all treated me right with the exception of the older Seagates not working well in a RAID 0 configuration. I currently have 5 WD SE drives in my main machine (2 WD1000JB drives in a RAID 0, 2 WD600JB in RAID 0 and a third WD1000JB for backup). All work flawlessly and perform well. I have another machine with 2 Maxtor 740DX drives in a RAID 0 and my wifes machine has 40 and 60 GB Seagates running independently. All of these drives have been in service for some time and none have been any problem. After seeing this recent post from the storage and controller guru of all the forums I visit I as well as the postings of Geeky1 must say I am impressed with the performance of the new Maxtors.

Would I sell my WD's to buy the Maxtors? NO
What would I buy today if I were buying? Maxtor or WD, depending on possibly price

I said WD for two reasons.
    1. personal experience with their drives.
    2. Friends who have RMA'd WD drives have had NO problems.

Service make a difference to me. You hard drive probably won't fail, but if it does WD has top-notch service from everything I've heard.
