Bit dissappointed with SM7's performance

Been chugging away on a rather nasty BBA5 Mutant protein worth 46 points, takes 40 hours. :(

So had a look at SM7.

WCPUid shows her running at 1244 MHz and there should be an AMD XP2000+ under the bonnet ( 1670 MHz?)

Further investigation reveals that the MB is an ECS K7S5A Version 1.0.
According to the manual, this board only supports up to 1.4 GHz.
There don't appear to be any options in the BIOS to change much.

Question: I've found a later BIOS that will support up to 1.7 GHz but it's for version 1.1 boards. Any idea if this will suit a 1.0 or will it toast it?

I'm a bit rusty updating BIOS, haven't done one since the good old Abit KT7 and EQ's BIOS every other week :D

Also, SM7 does not have a floppy drive. I think I've seen a windows BIOS update programme around but don't know whether to trust it or not.

Should I not risk anything and just leave well alone?

Need a bit of help here chaps.

Cheers

Never mind, I'm a plonker

Found a setting in BIOS that had changed when I selected optimum performance. It went from 133MHz to 100MHz system bus.
Changed it back manually and I'm now running at 1.67Ghz. :)

    Sorry to bother you.

Great work and dedication in paying so much attention to SM7, Crypto.

I award you ten points. Unfortunately, these are merely personal points, and they won't boost your folding score at all.

Once again, reading the whole thread before blurting out a suggestion has saved me from embarrassment. :vimp:

    Good catch, Crypto. :thumbsup::fold:

    Hey chaps,

thanks for having a look. It would be interesting to know what your suggestions would have been, but that's for another day.
