trojan-gen

Recently, i have downloaded the avast anti-virus and after installing, the
program detected a virus called the trojan-gen in the system32. I am not sure what the trojan-gen may do but the com works well except that the start up is a bit slow. Is there any way of getting rid of this virus? :confused:

Below is my hijacklog:

    Can you please do the following.

    ===============

    Run HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

    O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - E:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - E:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

    O16 - DPF: {33331111-1111-1111-1111-611111193457} - file://c:\ex.cab
    O16 - DPF: {33331111-1111-1111-1111-611111193458} - file://c:\ex.cab
    O16 - DPF: {33331111-1111-1111-1111-622221193458} - file://c:\ex.cab
    O16 - DPF: {64311111-1111-1121-1111-111191113457} - file://c:\eied_s7.cab

    Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    ===============

    To help protect your system from hostile ActiveX content, or special 'downloadable' files:

    Download, install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster. If you've installed it for the first time:

    1) Check for any available updates; if present, they'll be automatically downloaded and installed.
    2) Next, "Enable all protection".
    3) Exit the program.

    -

    Note: Remember to regularly check for updates.

    ===============

    After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

    Where are those files found? You can delete them manually if you know where they are.

    So is my log clean?

    just to name a few:

    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\lbcgsrkj.exe
    E:\System Volume Information\_restore{82275.....}\R67
    E\windows\system32

    they are all quarantine using the avast program but i cant do a cut and paste of all the files.

    So do i have to find the files and delete them? PLs advise ...One more thing , three files are system files :
    kernel32.dll,winsock.dll,wsock32.dll ( found in E:\WINDOWS\System32

    Your log looks clean to me. Yes, you need to find them and delete them. Obviously do not delete any system files :D. You will need to disable system restore once you have removed the other files, then re-enable it. This will flush the entire folder. All previous restore points will be lost.
  • edited November 2005
    one more thing , it seems like the files that i have quarantine (e.g changing .exe to .xxx and .dll to .ddd has been identified to be one of the infected files. ) So should i delelte these files as well?

    That would be what I would do :). So, yes, go ahead and delete them.
