Which card?

edited November 2005 in Hardware
I was looking at some benchmarks and supposedly the Ti 4600 is better than the FX 5200 & FX 5500. And almost up to par (am I using this correctly?) with the FX 5700 LE? I asked a friend of mine and he said the 6200 is a really, er, crappy card. My other friend said the FX 5200/5500 is actually better than the 4600 but because of some features in the FX series (forgot exactly what he said) it does bad in benchmarks. The Ti supposedly gets it easy. :o

Anyway, which card should I get? Ti 4200/4600? FX 5200/5500/6200? Ati 9250/9550? CompUSA has the 5500 for $49.99, 6200 for $79.99 (around that price), 6600 for $99.99 (around that price), 9250 for $39.99 (around that price, I think), and 9550 (forgot price but it's pretty cheap) on Black Friday. But if the Ti is better...I can just get one on eBay for around $30 after shipping...

What, entry level to mid level gaming? I would choose the 6600 for the $99 price. The 6200 to me, is kind of like the red headed step child. The later cards utilize DX9, latest opengl levels, and have better hardware based video decoding, so legacy cards may lack in many areas. If you will be using the older cards for games in its time, then go for it. You get what you pay for. Check newegg out for some updated prices on the 6600.

Hmmm, I'm planning to buy HL2, BF2 and FEAR soon... So I guess I should go for the 6600? Newegg's cheapest AGP version of the 6600 is a refurbished one. Around $110 after tax and shipping. Should I just buy a 6600 at Compusa or get Newegg's 6600 GT for around $155 after tax and shipping.

    Thanks for the reply.

You will not be able to play FEAR on anything less than the 6600. And the 6600 will play it pretty poorly. I have a 9800pro, which is pretty much on par with the 6600. FEAR demo ran pretty much like crap on my system. BF2 and HL2 will run fine on the 6600.
