Browser has its own mind! HELP
My browser seems to have a mind of its own! Every few minutes it will either change the current window or open a new window to some stupid advert. So as you do I ran Spybot S&D, AdAware etc etc and still getting these 'pop-ups'. I could cope if it opened one new window every now and then but its changing pages while i'm reading them
Some of the pages it opened where things like: 212paypopup.com, winfixer.com, cool-discount.com the list goes on. My HJT log is below
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!! I'm begging you PLEASE help!!!!

thats what I would do. I had the home search/ homs shopping wizard/ etc/etc virus that basically took over. most of the new ones embed themselves in multiple files and when one is deleted they repair/ replace it. so if its one of these super viruses...the best thing may be to simply backup your data and start over. use norton, go behind a firewall, check your settings and you should be fine since I have its been 6 months and I havent had a single virus. that might be the most convenient thing to do. im a bit scatterbrained right now i will ttyl im going for a cat nap.
I have seen a couple of other threads in here with people who seemed to have very similar problems solved by some very useful help.
Any other ideas besides formatting?
Cheers for your advice ayway,
and Trogan_1000 don't rush yourself on my behalf.
--avoid downloading porn: usually has embedded things in it
--avoid freeware, shareware, and online downloadable arcade type games unless you are certain it is legitimate...actually avoid the arcade games all together. just goto flash arcade sites instead..much safer.
--obsessively check for updates
--make sure you firewall settings are good
--if you are wireless use wpa tkip and turn the spread spectrum identifier broadcast off (SSID) and put your wireless frequency on a different channel and make sure you have a media access control table only allowing listed addresses just incase they break the preshared key.
--I need to go over a friends house (mind the rantings
wish u luck,
ray

Free Anti-Virus: Go here and download AVG Free Edition. Its a good free Anti-Virus. Keep it updated and run regular scans.
Free Firewall: Go here and download ZoneAlarm which is a good Free Firewall.

Follow this guide by Crunchie to stay more secure
Now that your PC is clean you need to follow these easy steps to keeping it this way:
Secure your Internet Explorer by going here and following the instructions there.
Better yet, use an alternative browser! Download FireFox and give it a run. It is far more secure than Internet Explorer. Or, you can get Opera which in my opinion, is better still.
Use a firewall to help prevent your PC's control being usurped by undesireables.
Install and keep updated, Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot S&D.
Run them both on a regular basis, following the manufacturer's recommendations.
Install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster 3.4
Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.
Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others.
Clear your Temp folders.
Clear out your Temporary internet files and other temp files.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >Internet Options.
Under the General tab click the Delete temporary internet files,
delete all Offline content as well. Clear out Cookies.
Also, go to Start > Find/search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.
Empty/delete the entire contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. (Contents but not the folder itself.)
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\
In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.
Empty the Recycle Bin.
For XP users.
After something like this it is a good idea to Flush the Restore Points and start fresh.
To flush the XP system Restore Points.
Go to Start>Run and type msconfig. Press enter.
When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
On the next page, click the System Restore Settings link on the left.
Check the box labelled 'Turn off System restore'.
Reboot. Go back in and Turn System Restore Back on. A new Restore Point will be created.
Note that all previous restore points will be lost.
===============
If you have any more problems, post back.
Any other problems?
If you come across anyone else with sinmilar problems i would recommend the Webroot's Spy Sweeper (http://www.webroot.com/). It found a good handful of things which both SpyBot S&D and AdAware both completely missed.
Once again cheers and keep up the excellent work!
Yep...I know SpySweeper is good but the problem is that its only a two weeks trail so I need to be careful in when to tell people to use it.
Look out for a welcome thread in the forums soon for joining Folding@Home
Can I mark this resolved?
Cheers
