Please Help!!

edited November 2005 in Nerdery
hi guys, any advice would be much appreciated,
None of my software programs will connect to their servers!!
Firstly my norton is innactive now whenever i startup my computer. The startup icon has a cross through it and iget a message saying NOrton AV could not start up...
When I try and update it I get a message "symantex renewal center was unable to connect to the server..."

I then try and run adaware and spybot to check for any nasties. Adaware will not update because it cant connect to its server so i run it without the updates and theres nothing out of the ordinary.

Spybot refuses to run a scan without its updates but when I try and update I get an error "ERROR RETRIEVING UPDATE INFO FILE! SOCKET ERROR #10061 CONNECTION REFUSED". Could this be the root of my problem?????

Also Messenger wont connect... but i can surf the web just fine in IE

PLease Help,

Thankyou very much in advance,

Adam

Have you changed Internet Service Providers lately, or installed any updates?

Give us a more detailed description of your setup. What type of connection do you have? Are you using a router or Internet Connection Sharing? The fact that Norton was the first one to go is troubling. Post a HijackThis log here, if it looks like you have a problem we might refer you to our Spyware/Virus/Trojan Discussion Forum. Don't start any new threads, though - we'll steer you to the right place once we have a little more info. :)

I don't see anything that stands out as a spyware problem. You have a bunch of security software which could be limiting your web access. Go through them and see if the programs you are having trouble with are on a "blocked" list.

Running the Network Setup Wizard again may help. Check your Belkin router, too. My daughter is running off a DSL connection through a Belkin router and has to log in after every reboot. If not, nothing works.
Also Messenger wont connect... but i can surf the web just fine in IE
    Is likely caused by this:
    O18 - Protocol: msnim - {828030A1-22C1-4009-854F-8E305202313F} - "C:\PROGRA~1\MSNMES~1\msgrapp.dll" (file missing)
Try reinstalling the program, or copy the file from another computer.

Hang in there, we'll get you going. :D
