Online purchase

edited December 2005 in Science & Tech
Norton Internet Security is working very fine; I can purchase a product safely on the Internet. But the subscription of NIS almost expires. I am looking for a free software to secure online purchase, like NIS.
I would deeply appreciate if anyone would give me any suggestion/recommendation for the software I am seeking.
I am awaiting your generous support!

Erm... I don't see how NIS affects internet purchaes in the slightest. It just acts as a firewall, referer page blocker (bad) and adremover/popup stopper. So when it expires... just uninstall it, heh.

    Thank you for your response!
Without NIS, the yellow security mark (lock) doesn't appear at the bottom of the browser (firefox), instead "the information will be easily shown to third party" message or crossed security mark emerges when I log in to certain e-commerce websites. (SSL2,0, 3.0/TLS1.0 are on). I checked the security option of the firefox, but couldn't find the detailed security option similar to IE's Internet properties>Adbanced>Browsing or Security; I installed NIS, then the yellow security mark appears after the log in.

I profoundly appreciate if anyone would give me any sugestion to secure the online purchase without NIS.
I am awaiting your generous assistance!

If a website is secure then you should get the padlock icon on the bottom right of the status bar (bottom right hand of the screen). The site either supports encryption or not, NIS can't "make" a site support it, heh.

Firefox's security settings are under Tools > Options > Advanced.

    Thanks for your response!
Then, why "the information will be easily shown to third party" message or crossed padlock icon appears without NIS, and dosen't appear with NIS?

I would really appreciate if anyone would give me a recommended option setting for IE and firefox.

I am awaiting your generous help!

In Firefox, go to Tools>>>Options>>>Advanced and scroll down to the security settings. See if anything you adjust there makes a difference. :)

Heh, already told him/her that. The default settings should be fine and that message you get doesn't sound like a default message, so when it comes up again can you tell us exactly what it says? Sounds like NIS is just there to make people paranoid.
