Preambula:

I know there are several guides for removing Smitfraud etc, on this page, but I thought step-by-step help would be more useful (so I could figure stuff out for myself and not bother you any more in the future). What made me suspicious today was 4 (FOUR) svchost.exe processes running in the task manager (maybe it is normal, but I have only seen 1-2 so far). I've been running Firefox since the day I removed HSA with the assistance of your forums about a year ago, and have never experienced any severe spyware problems (that S&D or ad-aware can't remove) from that day on. Maybe it is the Firefox 1.5 version that is unsecure or my gf (or wife soon, to be exact) has (ab)used IE on this comp despite my warnings, I wouldn't know.

But today I found those issues after running spybot (that it can't repair):

NOTE: all this doesn't interefere my browsing with firefox in any way, but having this BS in my computer is unpleasant.

Extra stupid stuff:

AVG antivirus found 3 trojans in 'System Volume Information' folder, that I can't access for some reasons (why?). AVG was able to fix those problems, though.

Thanks in advance,
zak.

Your log is clean. Did you install Spyware Shooter recently? It is known to cause these false positives to come up in Spybot (read http://www.spywareshooter.com/spybot.html)

    Oh, yes I did!
    Thanks!

But the question of 'you can't access system volume information folder' still remains. I have 'show all hidden/system folders/files' option turned on and I guess I am the 'administrator' of this computer (you wouldn't have limited access to your own machine, would you?)

Anyhow, the MAIN problem is solved and this thread would need a green checkmark :)

The System Volume Information folder always has restricted access to even the adminstrator. This is one of those special folders that Windows hides on you, since modifying it's contents can destroy backed up or current information on your computer.
