Rosetta is a project of one Lab, Baker Lab. Folding gets ideas and and sometimes sponsored projects from many institutions and laboratories, as well as its own staff of biochem folks. BOTH fold protiens. I culled this from the articles about Rosetta and knowledge of Folding.

There are also private endeavours (genome I think is one) that have similar projects. They basically are in it for the $. Folding is Stanford U. research and it's research is ostensibly not for private gain.

Usually a private endeavour will have specific goals like a drug or food supplement. Stanford's research seems to address "the big picture", "the building blocks" or "the broad spectrum".

I don't know too much about these other ventures because they are basically self-interested- but they may well pull in some Stanford research to accomplish their task. And that may be important some day ....
