SpyAxe and cleaning my hijack list.

Recently I was infected with Spyaxe. I have read through a lot of these forums and tried a lot of things but still getting the ballon warnings and random pop-up's when I'm not even surfing. Also my browse in IE will only go to a security center site that says I have spyware and such and ignores any attemt to change. Also often will interupt me when checking yahoo mail saying that the page is unsafe and directing me to various anit-spyware sites. Ironic. So I currently I ran Trend Micro's house call and it removed a lot of stuff ( trojans, spyware, etc. ) also installed a newer version 2006 Norten Antivirus and cleaned the system up as best I could. Currently ther are 48 processes running ( to many I think ) when my PC is Idle. My buddy at work says i should just re-image the machine but I'd rather not go through the hassle so any suggestions on how to go about cleaning the thing up and getting ride of this SpyAxe / pop-up / spyware stuff would be appreciated. ( I did read the Spyware tutorial you guys made and it's really helpful. )

I did save the suggested spyaxe auto remove but there is only one programm not 2? ran it with no effect. Deleted SpyAxe program under the control panel. Have saved ewido to the desktop and extracted smitRem.zip to the desktop. I tried to find the HJT items I've seen in other threads but as you can see below, they don't seem to be there.

From looking around i saw that noahdfear wrote an auto remove program called spyaxefix.exe and wanted to know if anybody here would suggest using it or not?

Download SpyAxeFix © noahdfear, and save it to your desktop.
Close all other programs and windows.
Double click SpyAxeFix.exe, then click Start to extract the tool to it's own folder.
Open the SpyAxeFix folder and double click the SpyAxeFix.bat to start the tool.
At one point when the tool runs, your taskbar will dissappear, and your computer will restart when the tool completes.
A text file named spyaxe.txt will be created in the SpyAxeFix folder.
Post the contents of that log, along with a fresh HijackThis log please.

Ok first here's my spyaxe text I think you wanted and below that is a current hijack this log after running the fix.

So I'm still getting pop-ups and my EI home page refuses to be changed from yoursystemupdate.com no matter what I try to save as my home page in EI Options.

Good news is that the pop-up spyware ballon seems to have been removed from the fix. What should I remove / do next? ( BTW, thanks so much for your help, you people rock! )

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Download smitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:

Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:

1. Restart your computer
2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.


Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.


Run Ewido:

• Click on scanner
• Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
• During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
• When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
• When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
• Save the report to your desktop

Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
