Please move HJT from your Desktop to its own folder on your C: so backups can be created. Do this before continuing.
    --

Download CWShredder 2.19 from here. But don't run a scan just yet.
    --

View hidden files and folders - explained here

Go into Safe Mode - explained here
    --

Check the following in HJT and click 'Fix Checked' - Close ALL open Browsers first

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = c:\secure32.html
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = c:\secure32.html
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = c:\secure32.html
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = c:\secure32.html
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\secure32.html
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\secure32.html

    O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)
    --

    Find and Delete the following:

    c:\secure32.html << this file
    --

Now, close ALL browsers and open CWShredder. Click on 'Fix'....run it Twice
    --

    Reboot into Normal Mode
    --

It is important that you use a software firewall, to prevent unauthorised traffic both out of and into your computer.
Your log doesn't show a firewall running. If you have disabled it, please re-enable it.
If you do not have a firewall installed, please download and instal one of these excellent (and free) products: Zone Alarm or Sygate
It is important to note that you should only have one firewall installed at a time, but you can download both to your Desktop and install each in turn to see which one you prefer.

To help protect your system from hostile ActiveX content, or special 'downloadable' files:

Download, install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster. If you've installed it for the first time:

    1) Check for any available updates; if present, they'll be automatically downloaded and installed.
    2) Next, "Enable all protection".
    3) Exit the program.

    -

Note: Remember to regularly check for updates.

Reboot and post a new HJT log :)

Winlogon is using a lot of memory but I don't know why.

    Download Ewido Security Suite
    1. Install ewido security suite
    2. When installing the program, under "Additonal Options" uncheck..
      • Install background guard
      • Install scan via context menu
    3. Launch ewido, there should now be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
    4. The program will now open to the main screen.
    5. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
    6. You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files:
      • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
      • Then click on Start Update.
    7. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
    Ewido Manual Updates

Once the updates are installed, do the following:

    Close ALL browsers before running:
    1. Click on scanner.
    2. Click on Complete System Scan, the scan will now begin.
    3. While the scan is in progress you will be promted to clean files, click OK.
    4. When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a checkmark in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections", then choose clean and click OK.
    5. Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located at the bottom of the screen named Save Report.
    6. Click Save Report.
    7. Now save the report .txt file to your desktop.

    Now close ewido security suite.

Don't worry about the Ewido log.

Try turning some stuff off in MSCONFIG....ask if you don't know how to do that :)

Run ALL of these scans if you can or atleast run two - Keep ALL browsers closed when scanning. Post a log of the scans if possible :)

    BitDefender Free Online Virus Scan
    http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php
Make sure you tick AutoClean under Scan Options.

    Panda ActiveScan
    http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm
Make sure you tick Disinfect automatically under Scan Options.

    Housecall at TrendMicro
    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
Make sure you tick Auto Clean.

    eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner
    http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

    Do a scan with this

    http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/

Reboot and post a new HJT log along with the scan logs :)

Another thing you may want to try after the scans is the following:

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

    Please download AproposFix from here:
    http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/aproposfix.exe

one quick question. i get these AntiVirus' installed into my computer, but im a gamer man, so most of the time i end up unloading them for the sake of some extra frames per second, what would you suggest? any suggestions on less resource hog AVs or...
should i use ZoneAlarm or stick with panda?
  • TroganTrogan London, UK
    edited December 2005
First tell me every piece of Anti-Virus, Firewall and Spyware Protection you have on your computer please.

I'l tell what to do after :)

BTW, how are things at the moment?
  • edited December 2005
    Running Exellent.

i have ZoneAlarm(disabled due to IRQ issues im having with it i think because of Panda)
    Panda Platinum
    Adaware
    Spybot Search and
    Ewido security

i had spy sweeper but the popups from the program's alert was more annoying then the popups anywhere else.

    edited December 2005
Is Panda Platinum just an Anti-Virus or is it a package with a Firewall etc?
  • edited December 2005
firewall too. not sure how good though, but it monitors outgoing i know for sure.
  • TroganTrogan London, UK
    edited December 2005
You should always be running ONE Anti-Virus and ONE Firewall only!!!

Having two or more can cause problems.

I suggest you remove ZoneAlarm and stick with Panda's Anti-Virus and Firewall.

OK, post one last HJT log please :)

Hows the memory doing with Winlogon?

Let me know if I can mark this resolved?

Congratulations! Your log looks clean - good work!

Now that your PC is clean you need to follow these easy steps to keeping it this way:

Secure your Internet Explorer by going here and following the instructions there.

Better yet, use an alternative browser! Download FireFox and give it a run. It is far more secure than Internet Explorer. Or, you can get Opera which in my opinion, is better still.

Use a firewall to help prevent your PC's control being usurped by undesireables.

Install and keep updated, Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot S&D.
Run them both on a regular basis, following the manufacturer's recommendations.

Install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster 3.4

Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.

Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others.

    Clear your Temp folders.
Clear out your Temporary internet files and other temp files.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >Internet Options.

Under the General tab click the Delete temporary internet files,
delete all Offline content as well. Clear out Cookies.

Also, go to Start > Find/search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.

Empty/delete the entire contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. (Contents but not the folder itself.)

    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

    Empty the Recycle Bin.

    For XP users.
After something like this it is a good idea to Flush the Restore Points and start fresh.
To flush the XP system Restore Points.

Go to Start>Run and type msconfig. Press enter.

When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
On the next page, click the System Restore Settings link on the left.

Check the box labelled 'Turn off System restore'.

Reboot. Go back in and Turn System Restore Back on. A new Restore Point will be created.

Note that all previous restore points will be lost.
