ok..i downloaded beta 504, followed all the steps, i chose under 512 and so on...

when i rebooted, it did not start automatically...then when i manually started the console, it went through a bunch of operations and is now at

Completed 0 out of 500000 steps

it is not doing much else.

additionally, my task manager shows it consistently using numbers in 90's of computer usage...

please help (*sigh again)

noob folder

    Not a problem.... OK.... Close down F@H.

    1- Browse to the folder with "FAH504-Console.exe"....
    2- Make a shortcut of it (right click on FAH504-Console.exe and select "Create Shortcut".
    3- Rename the shortcut to something like "config"...
    4- Right click on the shortcut and select "Properties"...
    5- You should see the "Shortcut" tab with 5 text boxes(Target, Start in, Shortcut Key, Run, and Comment) and three buttons (Find Target..., Change Icon..., and Advanced...)

    In the target text box, do NOT change what is there. Go to the end on the line and add the following " -configonly"
    (no quotes but include the space before the dash) Should look something like this...
    "C:\Program Files\F@H\FAH504-Console.exe" -configonly
    What this does is let you configure the F@H client easily. Now, double click on the new shortcut and follow the steps...

    User name: {enter your user name here}
    Team Number: 93
    {this step is tricky... read the line carefully. It might say
    Do not launch this program automatically, remove the service (no/yes) {Answer NO}
    OR it might say
    Launch automatically at machine startup, installing this as a service (yes/no) {Answer yes}

    The rest is up to you... One point to mention. It make take you a day or two to finish and report your first Work Unit. Until then, Stanford doesn't know who you are... running the above will show you what you have entered and allow you to change the settings... :thumbsup:

    Or use Electron Microscope, you'll find a link under downloads here - http://www.short-media.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3
    I use it because one click shows me exactly where folding is up to and gives easy access to the logs.

    There's a picture of a microscope in the top left corner, click that, then you can set everything. Click the right hand monitor icon (near the bottom right) and browse to the folding folder, then click add a box etc.

    There are counters that tell you how long its got to run, if they're counting down it's working ok.

    What he said! :D

    What Work Unit are you on right now? It should have a name like p1438 or something like that. Tell us which one we're working on and let us know your CPU type and speed and we can give you an idea of how things are going. Most WU's take a day or two to finish on even the fastest computer. :)

    here are my stats on Electron Microscope:

    Protein: 1205 p1850_Myosin6_PT_US

    Frames: 31 of 100
    Time Per Frame: 17:12 182.0
    Time per W/U: 28:40:00 (1850) 35/62/13[158]

    This is a lot faster then it was when i posted the information here just 30 minutes or so ago:

    http://www.short-media.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40208

    maybe you can help with that info...i am running the no nonsens "console"...so i am not sure what i can do about deadlineness

    can i open the console or does that stop the process?

    That's a fairly good pace. My Athlon 64 3500+ is predicted to Fold that particular WU only slightly faster than your pace. :thumbsup:

    What CPU do you have?

    (Caveat: Sometimes when you first start the computer the Time-Per-Frame prediction can be wildly innacurate. It may take an hour or two to stabilize.)

    That's exactly what I was after. A 2500+ is more than capable of putting up some serious points.

    You'll be having a party in your honor over here before you know it. :D
