Firewall and Remote Server Issues

edited December 2005 in Science & Tech
Two locations on one server SAF ans SAC.

SAC host the server and SAF is remote.

Yesterday the Firewall at SAF crashed and they are unable to safely access the server remotely. The Firewall that both SAC and SAF have are nolonger on the market and the IT suggests that we will need 2 new identical firewalls for compatability reasons (Can different firewalls be configured to work on the same server?)

In addition, the IT is remote from both locations. He is in Denver while the locations are in AZ and NM and he urges that he knows the system and a local guy would not be able to do what he can due to his knowledge of the current systems.

Thirdly, we want to install a local server at the SAF location anyway, so should we just do that and avoid the rest of the mess?

Comments and suggestions are greatly appriciated!

Ok i'm missing some details here location A and location B are linked via a VPN? If so most VPN's are standarized and yes any other firewall (that supports site to site VPN's) as long as it was set to correspond with the offside's VPN would work.

I'm affraid yes there are too many of these IT guys out there, not knowing the situation i won't judge too hard but he sounds more like a keeps the secrets to himself to promise his position in the future instead of the more honest of us that try to prove our worth via being knowlegable...

Agian I can't really say what to do about a 3rd server without some input on what that server does, is it an ftp server a web server a active directory server, what services are being share to whom, I.E. just site to site comunications or web shares to the world.... Too vague to really give you good input.
