I am going nuts (NAV2004)

How do I disable the annoying "Norton Protected Recycle Bin"?
There is nowhere I can just disable the damn thing.
I have disabled it on all my drives now, but it keeps saving deleted stuff on my C drive.
I've just about had it with this thing. :mad2:
It is so frustrating that I cannot get rid of it. :banghead:
In the old NAV I could disable it once and for all.
How can I do the same thing in 2004?
I have tried everything, I think.
When I delete a file, I delete it. End of discussion. :D

Firstly, unless I am terribly mistaken, Norton Antivirus 2004 (NAV2004) isn't responsible for that particular feature, Norton Utilities is. So I presume you have Norton Utilities, which also comes as part of Norton Systemworks just like Norton Antivirus also does.

I've never had any trouble disabling the protected recycle bin function. Follow the below instructions:
Under Windows 9x/Me 1) Right-click the Recycle Bin icon, and then click Properties. 2) Click the Global tab. 3) Select Use One Setting for All Drives. 4) Click the Recycle Bin tab. 5) Select Standard Recycle Bin. 6) Change the text in the Title box to "Recycle Bin." 7) Uncheck the Show Norton Protection Status option, if possible. 8) Click the Norton Protection tab. 9) Click Remove Norton Protection. 10) Click Empty Protected Files. 11) Click OK twice. Under Windows 2000/XP 1) Right-click the Recycle Bin icon, and choose Properties. 2) Select the Global tab. 3) Select the "Use One Settings for All Drives" radio button. 4) Select the Recycle Bin tab. 5) Select the "Standard Recycle Bin" radio button. 6) Change the text in the Title box to "Recycle Bin." 7) Uncheck "Show Norton Protection Status" if possible. 8) Select the Norton Protection tab. 9) Select a drive and uncheck Enable Protection. Repeat for each drive. 10) Select the "Also Empty Protected Files" option. 11) Click OK twice. 12) Reboot the computer.

It is a "feature" in NAV.
It was also present in the 2003 version.
And I am not too fond of it, as you might have noticed.
I will report back, when I have tried your guide.

    I have NAV2003 and NAV2004.
I have disabled the Protected Recycle Bin in both, set drive space usage to 0mb, and the the stupid thing still is enabled. I can't figure out how to get rid of it either.
I don't see why this feature is included with NAV?

I either use Antivirus (I've used it for years) with it being included as part of Norton Systemworks, where the Protected Recycle Bin feature is listed under Norton Utilities options, or when it is included as part of Norton Internet Security, which doesn't have the Protected Recycle Bin feature full stop. So I can only conclude, by what you guys have said, that the Protected Recycle Bin feature, only comes with Norton Antivirus when it is packaged on its own. Either way, the above instructions should sort you both out. If you're still having trouble, post back.

    Cheers

I finally got rid of it. I had to go into Services and disable the Norton Unerase Protection service.

So the instructions in my post didn't help? I ask because, that's how Symantec instruct you to turn it off.

Sorry, but the instructions did not help me. I had already tried them in the past.

Yeah, same with me. Though I guess for people who have trouble doing it this way, locating the service entry is the most sensible course of action.

    Update
    Another annoyance found.

When I move files around between my harddrives my computer can freeze totally for like 2-3 seconds.
I look in the lower right corner, NAV is waiting for a file scan. (Something like that)
    Didn't NAV2003 scan files when saved/opened?
I do not remember my computer freezing before.
I am not pleased with this new version.

To be honest, I never had any problems with 2003, but all it takes with Nortons stuff is one wrong click, and everything goes pairshaped. I've moved on now, and am using NIS2004, which comes with NAV2004, no problems so far, touch wood.
