WinFixer2005 and other popups

Hi,

I have recently been getting massive amounts of popups and my computer is running very very slowly. I really know very little about computers and would appreciate any help that I can get. Friends have told me that I should consider reformatting, but I do not want to back up all my things. If there is any help that you can give it would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi and thank you for the help,

    I checked and deleted all the items in HJT that you adviced.

    I tried to delete the svchost.exe file. I found 2 copies if it in the WINDOWS folder:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe and
    C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\svchost.exe

    The second of the two had no problem deleting, but the first (under system32) was unable to delete. Even in Safe Mode!

    I kept getting the error message:

    "Cannot delete svchost.exe: Access denied
    Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use"

    I've logged onto the web and I got only a few popups as compared to the amount I was receiving before. It is also definitely running a lot faster than before.

    It is always best to just follow the instructions given exactly :). that file in system32 folder is legitimate and if you were able to delete it you would cripple your PC :D.

    Can you please do the following.

    Still in HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:


    O23 - Service: .NET Framework Service (.NET Connection Service) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe (file missing)


    Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    Do you have the pop up blocker in IE turned on?

    After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.
