What MB do you have? If it needs an SATA (and/or RAID) driver installed using F6 when you first start the installation you may find this information useful:
Microsoft made changes after RC1, and drivers that were good enough during the beta might not work correctly in the final product. (VIA RAID controllers definitely have this problem, because I got nailed with it!) If you use F6 and install your drivers, and everything seems to go OK, but then when it reboots at the initial GUI setup screen or fails with a Stop 0x0000007B error, this is a sure sign of incorrectly decorated INF files. You’ll need to download updated drivers from either your OEM or my favourite – PlanetAMD64.com. For more on this, see Changes for Vendor-provided Storage Drivers Loaded Using F6.

    More details here.

The site made no reference to SATA, mentioning only IDE.

Does your Hard Drive connect using a wide ribbon cable (IDE) or a very small thin (SATA) cable?

Is this a retail version of WinXP 64-Bit or a beta version you downloaded?
  • edited December 2005
Yes it is an IDE cable. It is a retail version. Thanks for your interest in helping me :)

eMachines offers practically no specific details about your Motherboard. Can you look at it and identify the largest few chips on the board? What you're looking for is something marked VIA, AMD, or whatever. I'm trying to determine which chipset the board uses as this will give us a hint as to installing extra drivers as necessary.

They put alot of stickers on that board  Managed to pull one off, says VIA on it.Hope that helps.

pulled off another sticker...It's not in english but here's my motherboard ...I googled--->MS-7145-Ver2.1

According to Microsoft, the error you're seeing happens when it can't properly install a Mass Storage Controller driver. List all of the drives you have in the computer.

One thing I did see at eMachines' site is that the computer came with a card reader supporting multiple devices. How is it connected to the system? If you can disconnect it easily you might try that - it could be causing some confusion for the 64-Bit Windows install.

You could also try downloading the VIA Hyperion Pro 64 v5.00a Drivers (XP64). They are way too big to fit on a floppy disk, so you may need to do the old trial-and-error routine to see which ones (might) make a difference.

Is there any reference in your documentation or in the BIOS to RAID?

Ahh - I suspected that it was an MSI board when I saw that nice red hue. :D

That board has SATA connectors. Even though you're using the IDE Controller, I'd bet that the SATA is confusing Windows during the installation.

Unzip the attached file and copy them to a floppy disk. When you try the installation again watch the bottom of the screen carefully for a prompt to the effect of "Press F6 if you need to install any third-party or RAID drivers". When asked, point it to your floppy drive.

    Good luck. :)

Something you might try first is to go into the BIOS and disable everything related to SATA and/or SATA-RAID. If you can manage to get Windows installed you can re-enable it afterwards and install the VIA Hyperion Pro 64 v5.00a Drivers (XP64) to get everything running right.

Yup,gonna have to try plan b,need to have those drivers on a floppy and I haven't got one :(

It was a no go...Same result..When i disabled the SATA,my internet doesn't work  ...I guess I was ment to stick with the 32 bit windows :shakehead

How are you going about the installation? Are you trying to run the upgrade from within Windows, or are you booting from the XP64 CD?
  • edited December 2005
I tried both.To a virgin hd and to one that had xp home on it
The yahoos at emamchines online help cant help me...Says suppoet is limited to the OS that it came with...Fookers

Can you beg, borrow, or steal a floppy drive and disk? If you paid $100 for XP64 it may even be worth it to buy one.

If it's any consolation, there are a lot of people in the same fix. This type of situation is about the only reason I still bother with a floppy drive these days... :(

Yeah I can borrow one tomorrow and try what you suggested. The guy at emachines did agree to send me a new HD...I forgot to mention this,The hd that came with the setup, crashed after 3 weeks  Damn Western Digital

Look right next to the main ATX power connector (the big bundle of wires running from the power supply to the MB). In the picture I saw it is black or dark brown:
  • edited December 2005
You are correct!Couldn't see it behind the wires. Thanks a million.Going to "borrow" a drive tomorrow and give it a shot.
  • edited December 2005
Well I "borrowed" one from work. Now my cpu won't recognise the floppy drive. It's plugged in properly and powers up but no one's home

Check in the BIOS and make sure the Floppy Disk Controller is enabled, and that the drive is set for a 1.44MB type drive.

Also, is the light on the floppy drive always on? If it is, then reverse the wide flat ribbon cable.
  • edited December 2005
Yes the floppy is on.The only place in the bios that i anything related to a floppy is it says Drive A Not Installed. Can't see anything else

Does that mean that the light on the drive itself is always on? If that's the case, see what I mentioned about reversing one end of the ribbon cable.

That's the one. Try highlighting it and see if you can change it to 3.5" 1.44MB by using the up/down arrows and/or hitting {Enter}.

Ok,reversed the cable and the floppy works :D Now I get this error

The Txtsetup.oem could not be found
    press any key to continue

Add the attached file to the floppy disk and try again. I should have thought of that before... :bawling:

By the way - make sure you're unzipping these before you add them to the floppy disk.

If it still doesn't work, don't give up just yet - you are on the right track. There were several groups of files in the group I downloaded, I picked that one out of the bunch as being the most likely. It would not surprise me in the least if we ended up having to try a different one. :)
