Connection Problems, Please Help!

I just built a new computer and after finishing it I cannot log on to the internet. I have successfully installed Windows XP and all the motherboard drivers, especially the drivers for LAN. If I go into netwrok connections I can see the LAN and it has activity. However, if I go into IE is says the page cannot be displayed. I know the connection is good because it will work on my other computer. I have tried multiple settings in IE but none have worked. The motherboard I have is an ASUS P5GDC-V Deluxe and it uses Marvel drivers. Help, please! Thank you
