wininet.dll error in IE 6.0+ xp sp2

I am trying to play video (sport highlights) content from a site that when you click on the video link it automatically opens/runs in a media player window (not media player itself, rather a window from the website that uses media player as its player). The content starts but after a few seconds it crashes and I get a "Internet Explorer encountered a problem and must close... send error report..." yada yada yada message. Upon reviewing the details of the error it mentions wininet.dll. Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem and if there is a fix, Thanks in advance to those who reply and have a Safe and Happy Holidays to all!

I have moved this topic from SVT to a forum that fits this problem better.

Thank you! My apologies for not putting it in the appropriate forum; hopefully someone out there can give some advice with this - it is really annoying and what's worse it was working just a few days ago.
