I Want Bigger Point WU's?

Sorry about the title. Didn't know what else to put ;D

Anyway, my computer doesn't like 600 pointers anymore as it chokes on them about 1/2 or 3/4 of the way. After a non-complete 600 point WU, I get a new WU worth either 44, 51 or 55 points.

Can I change this so I get WU's that are in the 100-300 point range? Or even 400-500?

I should probably know how to do this by now but I don't :o

Thanks :)

Try selecting "Deadlineless" in the advanced tab. You should then get lovely 240 point Tinkers. AMDs love 'em. :D

Thanks for the link Crypto :)

I followed Mudd's advice but i'm stuck on one thing. After resetting the configuration, the client then closed closed as mudd said but what am I supposed to do after? I just double-clicked the first client (not the shortcut) and re-enabled the service. This brought me back to my current 55 point WU.

I'm hoping for a bigger WU next...

Did you enable -advmethods? If you're not sure just look in the FAHlog.txt and you will probably see:

    Arguments: -svcstart -advmethods.

Well if you don't get the big tinker this time we can try enabling it. Let me know it's a slight registry entry challenge using regedit.
You should get one though even without it.

The 55 point WU finished and I got a 241 point WU after :)

Will I continue to get Tinkers?

    What core(s) are Tinkers?

That's funny, I can't seem to get rid of them. My computer (HT P4) has been folding the 600 pointers for (almost literally) as long as I can remember! Too bad it only folds overnight. :(

Oh and, -advmethods is enabled for both instances. The big gromacs is all they ever get.

EDIT: Sorry, it's the 450 ones I get, not the 600 point units! :o

    You SHOULD get Tinkers.

Tinkers use the _65 core.

Trogan, if your machine is early ending the 600 point wu's regualrly, then something isn't totally stable with your machine (either heat buildup or a slight memory problem). You won't have your machine crashing on you, but there is something not quite right. Those 600 point wu's are incredibly tough on a machine's stability and the slightest problem with your machine will make the wu error out regualrly. If it's just an occasional early end wouldn't be a problem as the p114x series have been known to have occasional faulty wu's, but having most of them end early is a sign that something isn't quite kosher with your setup. I've found these 600 pointers to be the best test of a system's stability to date, even better than Prime95 or a 32M run of SuperPi.

With that said, your machine should draw almost all Tinker units now that you have set it up for deadlineless work, which aren't nearly as tough as the 600 pointers on the hardware end. Plus, you will average a better points output with them than processing a bunch of the regular Gromacs wu's like those 51 pointers.

How much mem should I allow to get the 600 pointers? Right now I'm only allowing 32mb per core ...may not be enough right? Any idea how much they use?

Well, maybe so and maybe not.... I am getting some deadlineless WUs here with out the deadlineless switch set, and they are a mix of deadlineless Gromacs and deadlineless Tinkers. Both are being offered as deadlineless. I'm also getting deadlined ones, though, since my deadlineless switch is deliberately not being set(I am folding on two P4 boxes in excess of 3 GHz each box). The Gromacs are simpler Gromacs, as far as the deadlineless ones go.
