Norton Internet Security 2004 annoyance?!

I recently upgraded my version of Norton Internet Security, from 2003 to 2004. Everything is as before, but I keep getting access control alerts every few minutes, and lots of them (as pictured below). At first I thought it was Kazaa, but I turned that off, and the alerts kept coming (though they do seem to increase, when Kazaa is running). I've ran spyware sweeps and virus scans on all my networked computers, including my main rig, for which the control alerts are being displayed, and nothing turns up.

Has anyone got an idea of what is causing these alerts, and whether or not I do need to block them or not. There is just so many, that it makes me wonder what the hell is going on and I never got anything like this with version 2003.

I can stop them coming up (for the most part) by creating a wide ranging block rule, which matches the control alerts details, but I don't like doing that when I don't know what it is.

Any thoughts and opinions, would be great.

Thanks in advance.

I also found this in the Symantec knowledge base:

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/cfcd5649881a90978525693700527436/0648aa796bb33fa1852569ba0081ccf4?OpenDocument&prod=&ver=&src=sg&pcode=&svy=&csm=no

The ping requests it talks about, seem to match the alerts I'm getting. What generates a ping request? when it's not local?

I have no idea what causes them but just block them. If something stops working then just unblock it.

The bloody things been driving me crazy all day, but I finally got round to doing as you suggested. Setup a minimal range rule for ICMP, inbound and outbound, for ping requests, denials and echos. Seems to have worked nicely.

Yeah but that only does it for that particular offending I.P address, the only way to permanently stop it, is to create an 'any computer' rule, other wise you'll still keep getting them popping up, as the I.P address is different almost everytime.

Norton, Norton, Norton... why do you pain me so.

    Cheers guys.
