how to get rid of bad sectors in drive

Hi everytime i boot up my computer, windows say i have bad sectors. I'm wondering if there is any way to get rid of the bad sectors or do i have to rma the drive. It's a maxtor ide 160 g drive. Any software tools to resolve it. Thanks

    There are programs which try to map around the bad sectors, but I wouldn't waste two seconds on any of them.

    RMA it while you can. It is just a ticking time bomb waiting to explode and take all your data with it. Backup everything you care about and get it replaced. :)

    I have had a couple ide drives that ran for years and years after low leveling them. A couple bad sectors is one thing. Huge blocks of them is another thing as well as constantly developing new bad sectors.

    I would low level it using maxtors tools. And then test and recertify it also with their diagnostic tools.
