Trouble with SB Audigy Audio C8C0

Please please please can anybody help?

I have a Dell 8400 PC with the above sound card installed. It has been working fine up until recently when the sound became intermittent when playing games (particularly Battlefield 1942). Now I have no start up and shutdown sound and all other games are silent too.

I've run the diagnostic dialog box and it says that most aspects are working fine, but against the SB Audigy Audio C8C0 line it says

DirectSound test results: Failure at step 19 (User verification of software): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code)

Can anyone tell me what this means and how to correct it?

Last night I tried the "roll back driver" option and it worked again. Since shutting down the PC and restarting it today it doesn't work again and it no longer gives me the option of rolling back the driver.

Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.
