Weird thing happened...

Well after bragging about running my latest install of XP Pro for over a year I had a weird thing happen to me...

Yesterday I went in to install my copy of drive image and went to set a restore point... that’s when the weirdness started.

When I tried to launch it through the start menu\programs I got an error message about an application error. I went into the system and when I clicked on the system restore tab I got an error... I can't remember the exact error but it had something to do with the RUNDLL error an exception as occurred in something, something c:\windows\system32\s(something).cpl",system"
I did a ton of research on the errors and came up with very little.
So I decided to do a repair. After the repair completed I went into the start menu\programs to run system restore and got a different message so I went into the system again and I noticed that the system restore tab was completely gone now... I guess that the repair makes you reinstall all os updates including SP1 so after that completed, the system restore tab is back now...
I did notice that during the repair installation XP said something about not installing a program because it was not an authorized program and that it would not be available... So now I wondering if it was a bug... But I went out and searched for the win32@klez (or whatever it’s called) and all was negative. I scanned for Trojans with adware 6 pro and nothing... this machine was kept up to date with the latest McAfee AV defs and updates for the past year. It was on a constant daily scan. I did have a bit of trouble installing McAfee 7.0 but after an uninstall and reinstall after quitting out of everything all went ok...

BTW, Apache 2.0 is not compatible with McAfee 7.0....

So I can't put my finger on what went wrong...
I have made a slight system config change in that I drive imaged over my C drive from a smaller hard drive to a new bigger drive...
It was kind of a bugger and I had to actually move it to IDE ports on the MOB and use a regular IDE cable instead of my rounded ones... But after the disk copy all seemed fine and I moved everything back to my 3ware controller and after several scan disks and sfc /scannow command and what-not everything seemed to be working fine until yesterday.
The other thing that I did was to convert back to basic disks from dynamic disks on my raid but all I did there was move the data that was on the raid from the raid to a 250gb drive, did the reformat and then moved the data back to the raid....

Sorry this is so long but I'm posting to see if anyone can see a glaring reason other than a bug/virus that might have caused it?
Also I'm kinda worried that it’s still there too if it is indeed a bug of some sort...

Oh..., and I also found out that at least for now, the XP repair is actually pretty good. Way better than 98Se repair...
It seemed to function like a clean install just without having to re-install all of your apps... It even required a re-installation of all XP updates and SP1 so it really felt like a clean install... I know that a format and reinstall is undoubtedly the best way to go but for those that have too much stuff to loose or can't do the re-format and install for some reason at the time... I would recommend a repair installation of XP...

Thanks I did and my rig was not infected with that...
However... I did install a couple of other trojan and sypware progys and Pest Patrol did find that Doly Trojan 1.5 was installed on my rig, big problem..., as well as a few other spyware cookies that weren't that big a deal...
Hopefully that is it, the system seems to be good again.
I'll go with this until I have to do the format and reinstall thing...
