CD-ROM won't stay closed?

I just rebuilt a PC after spraying the faceplates of the CD drives with black spraypaint. Now the CD recorder won't stay closed.

OK OK I'll admit, I then got pissed and jammed it closed with my hand. Now the thing stays closed and keeps making sounds like it wants to open repeatedly.

Is this thing toast?

    Grinded gears?

All I hear is clicking, no grinding. Of course, the thing uses a black rubber band looking thing off of an electric motor rather than gears for opening and closing the drawer...

I used to have that problem with a old LG 52X

I didn't know what was wrong with it, so i took it to the shop that built the compter, and they replaced it...so I'd assume it's a goner

I would also say it is a goner. If it keeps trying to open up constantly and it can't because you jammed it shut, then it will eventually wear our the gears I would think. Just try to get it open I guess.

This kept happening at College when people pissed around with them. Play about with it lots and it should stay in.
