i was looking at a Infrant ReadyNAS which uses its on os which is called Infrant's RAIDiator OS. Does anyone know if there is a os like that thats more open source? Im setting up my new file server and am choosing an os and liked its features.
right now i have a a64 3200+, 1gig ram, 2x 250gb wd ide hd's, 2x 300gb wd ide hd's. I want a reliable file server that i can stream video's off the hard drives, ftp into it, not sure what else yet. right now raid isnt a big deal. I like the os they made looks real nice and stable so thats why i was looking at something like it. I might get another asus a8n deluxe and use the onboard raid when i get some sata drives
the onboard raid for that is awful, its software raid 5 and the manager is all done in Java. if you get that board, with bios revision 1013 of higher you can use a PCI Express raid card like i got. ( i cant be sure other manufacutures cards work in the PCI Express slot other than Areca )
