is my dvd writer dying?

ive got a problem (i actually have many but i will only tell you about one for now)

my dvd writer (nec nd2500a) will write dvd's but refuses to write cds

i have burnt audio cd's using my plextor usb writer so i dont think it is a software issue

i recently got my computer back from repairs because the power supply unit had developed a fault

now when i try to burn a cd in nero i get a 'power calibration error'

any connection?

this is a really annoying problem as im a musician and regularly use my pc to burn music.

strangely though, my drive WILL write dvd's (i successfully wrote one last night)

so what do you guys think is wrong?

im not sure what other details you need but let me know

i have logs from nero if you need them

windows sp2
nec nd2500a
nero 6.3.1.15

why does everything go wrong at once :(

ok i tried that but it didnt work

    something else i have noticed

if i go to my computer and double click the drive i get an error that says

    'f:\ is not accessible
    incorrect function'

again this only happens when i insert a blank cd

if i insert a dvd it recognizes it and runs ok

    aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrggggghhhhhhhhh
