Please help with Trojan/pop-ups

I got a trojan virus somehow. AVG found it and could not remove, Ad-Aware got bits of it but couldn't remove it all. Also I get adds that pop-up that say powered by ZEDO on the title bar. If I could get some help removing it that'd be much appreciated. If I could be told exactly what to do and what to post it would probably be easier for anyone who helps. Thanks a lot. Pharl

    Download HijackThis self-extracting zip version from here. Once downloaded, double click on the file & it will install into it's own, permanent folder.
    Start HJT & press the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. When the scan is finished a window will pop up giving you the option of where to save it. Save it to desktop where it is easy to access. Open the log file and copy the entire contents of the file & paste it into the body of your post. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET. Most of what is there is necessary for the running of your system.

    Can you please do the following.

    ===============

    Run HiJackThis then:

    1. Click "Open the Misc Tools Section"
    2. Click "Open Process manager"

    -

    Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

    C:\Program Files\Network\network.exe

    Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

    ===============

    Scan with HiJackThis, then check(tick) the following, if present:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Network] C:\Program Files\Network\network.exe

    O23 - Service: Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (lsass) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\scvhost.exe

    Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    ===============

    Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

    folders...

    C:\Program Files\Network

    files...

    C:\WINDOWS\scvhost.exe

    -

    Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in "Safe Mode".

    -

    Reboot.

    ===============

    After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

    Hey, sorry I haven't responded. That night i tried to delete, had to go to safe mode. When my comp shutdown that was the last time it was on. Now I can't even boot. It says there was an error and it offers to start in 3 dif. safe modes, last good configuration, and start normally. None of the options will get my computer back on. Can you guys at least help me get it back on for now then once it is i can follow up on the forums with more info. Thanks

    Do you have your install CD? You may be able to run a repair install of XP.
  • edited January 2006
    No I do not. I can get my old start-up CD for Windows ME but not XP. I was hoping there was a way i could get it back on some other way

    Try booting into safe mode by hitting f8 whilst starting up. If it boots, do a system restore back to before the problem started.

    I was hoping to cross that bridge when/if we got to it. Worse case is a full reinstall :(. XP CD or recovery disk required.

    Alright man thanks. If you hear from me again it went alright. Wish me luck.
