Connecting Slim PS2

edited January 2006 in Science & Tech
I’ve seen a lot of similar threads but haven’t found a definite solution. I have the new slim ps2 and a linksys wireless connection in my room (the main connection is in another room), how can I connect the ps2 to the internet? I bought a network cable but can’t get it to work, and I’m not sure if that’s what I need. Thanks!

Yes it has the network jack. I have a network cable but I'm wondering if I need something else because I have a wireless connection. Thanks.

Well i do know that the PS2 has to have a Static IP address, that is, the address asigned to the the PS2 from the router will never change. im not quite sure how to do that, but the best bet would be to see if you can assign IP addresses to the port on the router.

So let me get this straight. you have a computer with a wireless router...... hooked up to a lynksys router in your room with your ps2............. or u have a wireless lynksys router in yout room hooked up to the computer?. ive never had to mess with anything on either of my ps2s. we have a fat ps2 and a slim one and all we did was plug in and connect (but we dont have a wireless router. however my freind does and he doesnt have a problem.) could it possibly be the way your routers are connected? or your network settings on your computer.

That's not true. I've had both the fat and slim versions and they both support DHCP as well as static and PPP. Boot up off of your network setup CD and save your network configuration to your memory card and games will be able to see and use it.

If you're getting DNAS errors you should check to see if your router is allowing DNAS traffic. You may have to assign your PS2 to always receive the same IP from the DHCP server and create port forwarding rules or your router might have application-triggered port forwarding if it's nice. Newer D-Link routers can do this.

yea...... i think it might be how your routers are hooked up. but also make sure if you also have a fat ps2 with network that you are not using the same memory card or at least not the same network config. because the network configuration for the fat ps2 will not work in the slim one. i learned that from experience
