Little issues...

Ok last week I fixed a guys box, it had the bad stick of ram as it turned out. I did do a reformat and clean install of XP.
His board is the FIC version of the AMD 761 so it's a little older board.
I tested it for a day doing prime95 and 3dmark with out any problems.

So I see him the other day and I made the mistake of asking how it was... He told me that it has some little problems still... Here is what those problems are:

1) When he is on the internet and opens a few windows it slows down really really bad. And exiting out of Explorer dosen't fix it... But if he reboots his speed is back again.

2) His sound seems to work fine until he goes to his poker site... After going to the poker site something happends and his sound is gone until the next time he reboots.
I told him not to go to that site any more but he said no way... I guess its his thing...

Anyhoo... Here are the specs

FIC A11 (I think it is, AMD 761 chipset I know for sure)
He's using the OB sound and NIC.
256meg Kingston value ram :rolleyes2 (he's just gone down 256megs cause a stick of Crucal was toast)
80gb WDJB drive
450w PSU
DVD player and CDRW
AMD XP1700
Radeon 9200 128

and thats pretty much it.

I installed all of the newest drivers, the BIOS is up to date and has been completely reset by taking out the Battery and jumping the CMOS for 30 minutes...

It sounds like it dosen't multi-task well which I think is a memory thing... But 256 should be enough to get him buy....?

Thanks

XP can still lag with 256. I was fed up with it on my home machine so I put 2k on it even tho I am there only on some weekends.

    1) It looks like he needs more memory. My wife had that same problem and she like having like 20 browser windows going all the time with all kinds of ither stuff running and after I upped her to 512 she said it was better but now she has 1 Gig and is real happy.

    2) Most likely just some conflict with the crappy onboard. Could try looking for newer drivers and tighten his browser security. If that doesn't work, explain to him that he does not have state of the art equipment and either he will have to live with it or upgrade to a better sound solution or a new board.
