Not saying that this is neccessarily the case, but I know a lot of viruses and spyware tend to immobilise the Task Manager option so that you can't "kill" the process with ease. Maybe try downloading SmitRem tool from noahdfear. Instructions how to use and download can be found here: http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/
also run your preffered anti spyware software (Adaware SE, Spybot etc.) and see if that picks anything up.
