Hmmm. I believe there are dedicated programs just for this. The only Prog I personally know of is Cool Edit 2.0. So let's say you have a CD with a song that you want to turn into Karaoke.
1) Rip the audio from your CD using Cool Edit's CD ripper
2) Effects->Channel Mixer->Vocal Cut
3) Save file as 16bit/44.1Khz PCM .wav
Note: Files In Cool Edit can optionally be opened as 32 bit or 16bit. In most cases 32bit is prefered for optimal DSP application at the expense of very slightly added dither noise. You may want to try both file resolutions but 32bit should be the way to go.
4) Burn to CD with your burner software (e.g. Nero)
Some things to know:
This (and all vocal removing products) only work on vocals originally recorded in phantom center a.ka. "mono" vocals that are recorded in non traditional ways will still be resident to some degree, how much may vary.
Cool Edit 2.0/2.1 was very recently aquired by Adobe and is now called Adobe Audition. Finding an original Cool Edit is just as good IMHO.
I have personally never tried Cool Edit vocal elimination of any kind so I am basically reciting from the manual.
Most high end digital editors (Sound Forge, Wavlab) and even lower end editors should have something like this. I'd venture to say that there may be a way in the simple editor that comes bundled with Nero or even sound blaster.
Right, I just put 4 random songs through the Vocal Cut on CoolEditPro 2.1 for you to have a listen to the output.
Note: These were medium quality bitrate MP3 files originally so the finished product with original ripped WAV files will be improved.
OGG Vorbis Codec (just extract the 2 files to your Windows\System32 folder to be able to play these tracks with Windows Media Player (any version).
Dire Straits - Money For Nothing
Don McLean - American Pie
Craig David - Rise And Fall
Justin Timberlake - Rock Your Body
All files are ~1.5MB (and sound almost identicle to the WAV directly after the effect was added, so this second compression hasn't runied the files).
It's best to listen to them all the whole way through to see the effects on all of them. Some of them are pretty good, but all of them are far from perfect. The Craig David/Sting one has come out very well, but all of them have lost all the beat.
When you burn a cd with karaoke, do you just burn it with the .cdg and the .wav as if they are numbered like: 1-Craig_David.wav and 1-Craig_David.cdg? As i understand, they have to be named the same to be able to be played simultaneously or? What is it in the .cdg that makes it run at the same time as the .wav?
NS, you wont have to fear RIAA as long as you dont have anything shared. Sorry to hear about the visur stuff. I hate that kind of thing. I still get the occasional microsoft email crap we talked about in another thread.

I was refering to the names of the songs that are in my post, they were linked but were removed by the admins due to potential copyright infringement.
I have had nearly 400 of those fake MS e-mails now in the last week and a half. The virus was from something entirely different though (PocketPC software of all things).
If you find a guide on how to burn karaoke songs (wav or mp3+.cdg), please let me know. Im looking like hell, but all sites i have found wants dough for the service. I have about 500 karaoke songs with the working .cdg and i would like to have it burned.

Also apparently Nero can burn them, but I am not sure how.
This looks interesting though - http://www.karaokeplayground.co.uk/help/noncompatibleburner/noncompatibleburner.htm

Should work now. I keep getting hours of net outage due to my ISP having DNS problems and staying connected but essentially being cut off entirely.
