Do you really like the gt over the gs? I'm broke so I tend to go for value.

    GT -$229.00
    Core clock: 350MHz
    DirectX: DirectX 9
    DVI: 2
    Memory Clock: 1000MHz
    Memory Interface: 256-bit
    OpenGL: OpenGL 2.0
    PixelPipelines: 16

    GS- $175.00 (with rebate -Newegg)
Core clock: 485MHz (vs standard at 425MHz)
    D-SUB: 1
    DirectX: DirectX 9
    DVI: 1
Memory Clock: 1.1GHz (vs standard at 1GHz)
    Memory Interface: 256-bit
    OpenGL: OpenGL 2.0
    PixelPipelines: 12

Oh, and can somebody tell me the $70 (+/-) difference between the a8n-sli and the diabolical premium ultimate edition? I can't figure it out.

I think Gibbonsl (like me) was assuming the GS is a budget card, that doesn't appear to be the case... according to the reviews I can find the GS is faster than the GT whilst being much cheaper. It's built on a newer process than the GT and a more advanced architecture....seems to be halfway between the 6 series and the 7 series whilst the 6800GT is a 6 series card.

I would also dump the 4400 in favor of a 170 Opteron as it is a better CPU. Also, dump the Liteon in favor of an NEC 3550 as the NEC is waaayyyy better and less dough. You are also in range of a budget 7800 with the price of the card you originally listed. just my $ .02

Too bad the 7800GS is AGP only.

I like the 6800GS and the opti CPU.

Do you need the extra ports on the premium mobo?

The heat pipe on the North Bridge and the built in AI selector for SLI. The fans on the deluxe board's North Bridge do tend to go out quite often. I've had both boards and I do like my premium better.

    the dvd-rom was a cheap drive 24 bucks .

I don't need a burner, becouse I have an external DVD-RW that i am going to use.

as for the CPU why is it better then the 4400?

it is going to manily be used for video encoding and some times for games.

the newest game that i will be playing is NWN 2, other then that most of my games are DS2 and older games.

I do want the ablity to upgrade later tho.

It is made from better silicon. They run quite a bit cooler than the regular X2 A64's. If you wish, it will OC much better. I have owned both the X2 and the Opteron X2 and when run @ stock the opteron feels much smooter. Oh yea, the Opty costs less and you won't miss the 200Mhz that costs an extra $55.00 with the 4400.
