The SpyFalcon site is indeed a crapware site, trying to get people infected.
SmitRem should be updated within the next day or two (hopefully sooner). As soon as I hear about the update I will let you know.
Well I never, I am at the bleeding edge of malware infection! Any way at least I have a holding position until the smitRem update comes along. As you say good news, thanks.
Nah this is hopeless, I have to sort out the hanging safe mode problem, I can not run smitRem to conclusion.
Dont understand this I have never had a problem with safe mode before (not that I use it often) but the system is solid in normal mode.
I will post elsewhwere and see if I can get advice on hanging safe mode.
I will keep you posted!
Mike
Time to light the cigar!
The instability in safe mode was due to the spyware! What I did was to use Msconfig to mage the next boot in to normal mode without running anything in start up (a sort of safe normal mode) and then run the routine.
After that the infection is gone and then just to be sure I ran it in safe mode and eberything ran to conclusion.
Thanks for all your help. According to Panda spyfalcon was released on the day I got it and their dat has been updated. Curiously a search on the symantec wedsite still draws a blank, makes you wonder if I am using the right AV?
