Internet connection error

edited February 2006 in Science & Tech
Hi my internet connection is screwed up. After about ten minutes on the web, the next thing I know, I'm looking at a page that says "page cannot be displayed" and at the bar on the bottom of the screen, it says "cannot find server" yet I can still access MSN messenger so I'm obviously still connected to the net.

I thought that it might be the browser so I switched to mozzilla from IE but I still have the same problem. I've also scanned my computer with Rising-global anti-virus and with adaware and spybot.

I'm running Windows XP Pro.

Here is a Hijackthis log:

When I scanned my system with hijackthis and went to delete the files, it told me that I shouldn't delete anything if I don't know what it is. I'm very computer illiterate so I did not delete anything. If someone could break this all down for me, that would be awesome.

If you can help me, I would apreciate it very much. Thank you for your time.

Other then your internet explorer being out of date I don't see anything in your hijack log that would cause issues. Have you done the usual virus scan and add/spyware scan using something like ad-aware?

Other issues that could be causing this problem could be an odd MTU setting. If you have a router this is easily set in the router settings. A setting of 1492 is usually the best. However if you don't have a router you have to change it in the registry.

Beyond that Not enough information to go on. Have you cleared out all your internet cache/history/cookies? Could be a badly formated cookie that is causing the problem. Try installing a different browser like Firefox for example.
