Problem connecting to the work server

OK, I let my guard down for one day, and now my P4 rig is sitting idle. Why? Because it won't connect to the work server. After it finished it's last WU, it had no problems sending in the work - but as soon as it queried a new WU, it started getting the message, "could not connect to Work Server". It's probably tried at least 100 times since it started getting this message. I've tried everything short of just reinstalling the console. Any suggestions?

    Sometimes shutting down the client and restarting it will kick it into working.

    Tried that. I reset the computer, deleted the work folder, deleted all the cores, rechecked my firewall. Maybe I should just reinstall the console?

    Which server is it trying to connect to? You could see if there is a problem at Stanford's end.

    I had a few similar things happen a week or two ago. Hope you get it fixed soon. :)

    I'm still having problems with this rig :( I uninstalled the no-nonsense console ver 5.02 and installed the beta 5.04 to just see if that worked. It's trying to connect to a different server now (both servers checked out OK on the server status page you showed me prof)

    I am getting a different message now - here's a quick log paste to show you what it says:

    What type of Firewall (and other security) measures are you using?

    It's my parents' computer, I have Windows Firewall turned off, and they're using Norton's firewall. I checked the allowed programs and the console is listed, but just in case I temporarily disabled the firewall to see if that was the problem. It still didn't work - the log I posted was with no firewalls. They also have all the other Norton security turned on, but I'm not sure I see how it could be causing the problem?

    Try changing "Use IE settings" to no and see if that helps. (Hey it's worth a try)

    I had already tried that too Donut :D Thanks for the advice though! I'm really getting desperate about this, I just don't understand how it worked so flawlessly for such a long time and then it just dies.

    Try deleting all of the cores (the ones in the FAH folder like FahCore_xx.exe, etc), then empty out your "Work" folder.. See if it will then download a new WU and core.

    Strangely enough though, after nearly 5 days of not working, it magically finally got a new WU! :confused2 I'm pretty sure it's nothing I did to it too. I did notice though that before it got a WU that works it had a problem with 3 or 4 of them first. Let me jump on that rig and post the log for it again.

    Here it is, I started from the last bad attempt at getting a work assignment, and finished where I am now.

    From looking at this, it would seem that Stanford was either sending me bad packets, or I'm getting bad packets through my DSL line (but that wouldn't explain why I've had absolutely no problems on my main AMD rig. Odd. Oh well, at least it started working again.

    For what it's worth, a corrupt core could cause those problems. Hopefully your troubles are over, but if the problem crops up again I'd try deleting the cores and starting fresh.
