Computer=slow as molassess

My computer has been getting progressively slower and slower. It's gotten to the point where simple acts such as minimizing a program cause the computer to freeze. In these instances the CPU Usage is at 100%!

Just a few minutes ago my computer froze and all I had open was Firefox. When I opened task manager, the CPU Usage was aat 100% again! This shouldn't be happening since I have a pretty good computer. It's a DELL windows XP and 80 GB. Plus, when I first got it, it was super fast. I used to be able to have Photoshop, Firefox, and Word open all at once w/o problems, but now I can't.

Another issue is that the internet has gotten really slow. I have DSL yet it's moving at the speed of dial-up. I know the DSL works fine because I have a laptop which uses the same DSL, and it is 10x faster.

I'm not exactly sure of what's causing all this. I'm guessing that over time a lot of gunk has been building up. If this is the wrong section of the forum, let me know!

Processes (when the computer is running fine. my thought in posting this is that maybe there are some processes that are unnecesary and could be deleted to free up system resources)

    I'd put it down to the fact that it looks like (from your task manager) that you seem to have every program on your computer running at the same time, to make matters worse it is a Dell with XP, so I assume they put something stupid like 128MB in there. Doesn't matter what size the HD is, it's the RAM you're straining. Stop running so much at once.

    I assume you've run Spybot S&D and Adaware before posting this log, right?

    Oh, that ABI network thing is bad btw, it's a nasty spyware/popup program.

    The funny thing is, that screen shot of the task manager is from right after I had turned on my computer. The only program I had running was Firefox. I hadn't used or started up ANY of those programs.

    Based on your Page File usage I'd guess that you have a trojan trying to run that's being blocked, possibly by an antivirus software. I was working on a machine once that this happened to. Virus scans came through clean, but PF usage was through the roof. Eventually I found that a trojan was tryign to run, but kept being stopped, and kept trying, and was boosting the PF. Please follow the instructions above then post a new log.

    I fixed the items in HijackThis.

    When I looked under C:\WINDOWS\System32, there was no "WinStat11.dll", however there WAS a "WinStat11.dat" and "Winsta.dll". Should I delete either of these?

    I attempted to delete "The ABI Network - A Division of Direct Revenue" from Add/Remove Programs. I said I needed to download a special uninstall tool from mypctuneup.com
    Is this safe?

    I also ran Spybot and Adaware.

    Spybot did not turn up any immediate threats. It did, however encounter an error. The error read: "Xuron55 (Datei C:\WINDOWS\win.ini kann nicht geoffnet werden. The process cannot acces the file because it is being used by another process)

    Let me know if you would like to see the log of the Adaware scan.
