Annoying Duo:Trojan.Startpage and VX2 KEEPS COMING BACK!!

Hi, Been browsing the forum and feel real lucky I found this site. Seems like you guys help alot of people, so I feel a lil hope for my problem. Recently my computer been running a lil weird (feels slightly sluggish) when I ran spyware doctors Trojan.StartPage.Gen and VX2.Look2ME keeps showing up after being deleted by spyware doctor. I ran all kinds of programs (adaware + vx2 add-on,ewido,spybot,cwshedder,McCafee,Kasperky, etc) but it keeps coming back. So please help me get rid of them. They don't feel like huge threats but who knows, spyware is known to invite other spyware right? Thanks.

    Hi Darkstar.

    Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

    http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

    Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

    IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

    OK I'm not seeing any active Look2Me infection in that log but we may run the Look2Me fix later anyway but for now we'll try this. I see 2 ways to handle one problem in your log.

    One is to Download LSPFix from here. Unzip the program to your desktop. This program will fix the below entries in your Hijack This log:

    O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\idmmbc.dll
    O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\idmmbc.dll
    O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\idmmbc.dll
    O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\idmmbc.dll
    O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\idmmbc.dll

    The program has a checkbox that says "I know what I'm doing." Be sure to check that. In the left pane of the program you should see the above file somewhere, idmmbc.dll. You want to put that file on the remove side. Once you open the program it will be self explanatory.

    OR

    The file listed in the 010 entry idmmbc.dll is part of the internet download manager software that you have installed on your PC. If you don't use this software I would uninstall it through the control panel. This should remove the file and the 010 Hijack This entry. You can do this however you like.

    Before you do either of those run Hijack This again and put a check (tick) next to the following entry:

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: Mixer - sndmixex.dl (file missing)

    Make sure all other browsers/windows are closed and click Fix Checked.

    Post another Hijack This log when you're finished with all the above and let me know if the symptoms are any better.

    Well that idmmbc.dll is probaly some files that goes with my dl accelerater so I'll leave that alone. Went and deleted the file you told me to in HJT. Heres the log afterwards.

    This one: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tgcmd] "C:\Program Files\support.com\bin\tgcmd.exe" /server has been reported at times to be spyware but if you're having no pop-ups or other problems at this time I would leave it.

    You really should consider updating your Windows installation to SP2. This would increase security as well as help to keep your log clean. If you're OK with the download manager, and it causes no problem with your internet connection then we should leave it alone. Are you having any other problems? The look2me must have been stripped out some by the scans you did. The log was inconclusive at identifying it. If this entry: O20 - Winlogon Notify: Mixer - sndmixex.dl (file missing) comes back then we should run the look2me fix. Let me know if it comes back when you run another Hijack This log. Again let me know if you're having any other problems and what kind in particular.
