this may seem the obvious response
    but

    have you tried uninstalling it?

my apologies for stating the obvious but sometimes a reinstall can solve a problem instantly

what i usually do if im uninstalling a program and wanna be rid of it completely is i uninstall it through control panel then i actually go into my program files folder and actually delete the program folder for that program

your path will most likely be c:\program files\mozilla firefox

i would uninstall and then delete that folder then try to install it from fresh

BY NO STRETCH OF THE IMAGINATION AM I A COMPUTER GENIUS SO DONT TAKE WHAT I SAY AS GOSPEL!

but this process has worked for me with regards to troubleshooting programs

also, even though mozilla is supposed to be the best defense against spyware and adware, i would strongly suggest you install the following cocktail of anti-spyware/adware programs

they do wonders for keeping your browsing clean and safe

    spybot search and destroy
    ad-aware se
    hijackthis

the first two will find and remove problems
the third will help to give you a log which you can post in the security forum on short-media if necessary
this log will help the nice ppl at short-media to determine wether or not you have a spyware related problem that is affecting your browsing

    hope this helps!
