Hey, does anyone know when vista is supposed to be released.

I need to get a laptop for college sometime during this summer, but if vista is worth it, i can wait for it. As some of you know, halo 2 will be out for vista, and I'm a huge fan. That would be enough to keep me waiting til vista comes out. Yea i know its lame, but I love that game.

would it be worth waiting a while to buy a laptop until vista comes out (if itl be preloaded with it)

My opinion is to look for the best deal overall. The closer we get to the release of Vista the more the existing WinXP machines will be discounted. I bought my first computer about three months before Win95 came out. Stores were having sales like crazy because buyers were mostly holding out for the new OS, so I got a good price, not to mention a free RAM upgrade - all the way to 8MB! ;D

Look at it this way: If you can save ~$100 bucks on the machine itself you'll be able to pay for the upgrade when it's available. Just make sure whatever you buy will meet the requirements for running it.

    Here is what is published:

    Vista Facts & System Requirements

I'm playing with Vista as you view. Here is what I personally would recommend:

2.4GHz P4/2500+ XP AMD CPU or better
1GB RAM or more. If 64 bit- go 2GB+
You could get away with an ATI 9xxx or nVidia 5xxxFX series or better board (all support DX 9.0- that's your governing criteria)- I'd really go with the better cards.
AN 8X OR FASTER DVD PLAYER. Vista should be 2.5GB or better. It will probably be sold DVD mostly or multiple CD.

    Hope that helps.

I plan on getting a decent laptop with a good videocard in it so i can still game. Yea i know its a laptop, but I dont feel like lugging a big desktop around. I plan on getting the 6800 mobile card, and the pentium m 760

are the new intel duo's any good? dell started offering them but i dont know how they are.

There's a lot of wisdom in what he said. I'm waiting a bit more myself for these very reasons.

well if its out in december or later I'll have to buy a laptop before that. I'll probably need to buy one sometime during august because school starts in september. Since I plan on customizing one online, i'll need to allow a week or 2.
