Trojans Gallore

Running avg, adaware, spybot. Get lots for viruses found and removed, but they keep coming back. System restore is turned off, and I've been scanning in safe mode, but it makes no difference.

Hi. First thing to do is to turn system restore back on and make a restore point before we do anything. It's better to have an infected restore point than none at all. After you have done that follow the instructions below:

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.
    • Close all windows before continuing.
    • Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
    • Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
    • You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 10 seconds. Click OK
    • When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
    • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
    • You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
    • When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
    • Your computer will then shutdown.
    • turn your computer back on.
    • Please post the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

If you receive a runtime error '339' please download MSWINSCK.OCX from the link below and place it in your C:\Windows\System32 Directory.

I will do this Thursday morning, since I am away from that box this evening. One other question, where do you learn how to interpret HJT, and know what to look for?
    Thanks.

    Thanks.

Identifying particular infections requires a lot of time and training. Most of us train online at various places and have a common bond in eliminating online threats and fraud.

It's not a good idea to interpret a log without some real knowledge of how Windows works and how infections present themselves. One good place to learn is at http://www.malwareremoval.com. They have a malware removal university there. I'm still learning myself :) and the learning never stops as new infections emerge and existing ones change. It's kind of like being a doctor.

I'll be waiting for the results of your scans on Thursday. Have a good night!
    :)

OK. That log is certainly looking better! Open Hijack This and place a check (tick) next to the following entries:

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust...search/ie.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust.../www.yahoo.com
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {622B3E0F-F4E3-A569-C3AC-F58AAAA6F8CB} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\qyhziwn.dll

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ankdypoj] C:\WINDOWS\ankdypoj.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [acvero5t] C:\WINDOWS\System32\acvero5t.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsysupd] C:\windows\winsysupd8.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsysban] C:\windows\winsysban8.exe

Close all other browsers/windows and click Fix Checked

Next restart your PC in safe mode explained here.

Make sure you can view all hidden files and folders, explained below:
      1. Click "Start". 2. Click "My Computer". 3. Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options". 4. Select the "View" tab. 5. Under the "Hidden files and folders" heading, select "Show hidden files and folders". 6. Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option. 7. Click "Yes" to confirm. 8. Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types". 9. Click "OK".

Next use Windows Explorer to navigate to the following folders:

    C:\Windows

Delete the following files if present (do not worry if they don't exist):

    winsysupd8.exe
    winsysban8.exe
    ankdypoj.exe

    Next navigate to this folder:

    C:\Windows\System32

Delete the following if present. (Do not worry if they don't exist):

    qyhziwn.dll
    acvero5t.exe

Now restart the PC in normal mode and post another Hijack This log.

If you don't use the Party Poker program I would recommend uninstalling it.

Here's the new log. There was no acvero5t.exe, but there was an .ini, so I deleted that. Also, the party poker app. is used to play poker online. Is there some reason I should not use it?

Log looks good! Are you having any more problems?

The Party Poker program is OK but programs like this have been known to download malicious programs and stuff but if you use it regularly and have had no problems with it then you can leave it. Is there anything else I can help you with?

    Glad it's working fine :)
SpywareShooter, one of our other moderators, has begun a database of malicious Hijack This entries here.

It is designed to help people read their own logs. I would still advise though that you do your own research online and follow an expert for awhile before attempting serious malware removal.

You should now go back and re-hide the operating system files and disable and then enable system restore and make a restore point. This will delete the infected restore point from earlier.

I'm glad we were able to help you. I will close this thread now. If you need to have it re-opened please PM me or one of the other moderators and we'll open it.
